A group of postgraduate students from the University of Vienna and from the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation seated in Venice visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, on Saturday, 23 January 2016.

They were received by the officials of the Constitutional Court, led by chief legal advisor, Mr. Sevdail Kastrati, who first made a presentation regarding the composition, structure and function of the Court, underlining its role as a guarantor of respect for the constitutionality in the country.

During the conversation, Mr. Kastrati, among others, answered the students’ questions regarding the renewal of the composition of the judges of the Court, relations with other state institutions and the regular judiciary, decision making process and the challenges this institution is currently facing.

Students expressed their interest especially for the Constitutional Court’s decisions on cases of violations of individual rights and for implementation of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in reviewing the Referrals.

The membership of the Constitutional Court in the Venice Commission and relations with other counterpart institutions in the world were also discussed in the meeting.
