The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Gresa Caka – Nimani, hosted Mrs. Gesa Bräutigam, Ambassador for Feminist Foreign Policy and Director for Human Rights at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
The work of the Constitutional Court so far, with special emphasis on the decisions regarding the protection of women’s rights, as well as the application of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and the Istanbul Convention in cases of domestic violence and gender-based violence, were some of the issues about which President Caka – Nimani informed Ambassador Bräutigam in the joint meeting.
Further, President Caka – Nimani also discussed the respect of women’s rights at the country level and their inclusion in the institutions, especially in the judicial system and in decision-making processes, about the current legal framework on the protection of women’s rights, as well as the legal mechanisms available for compensating victims of sexual violence.
Ambassador Bräutigam, on her part, emphasized the importance of complying with international conventions regarding the protection of women’s rights and against sexual violence.
