The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, in cooperation with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kosovo and with the support of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), organized a Workshop on Anticorruption, which was held in Thessaloniki, on 7 and 8 September 2016.

The workshop was attended by judges and legal advisors from both courts, who among others discussed and exchanged their points of view on the judiciary mechanisms and its role in fighting corruption, and the right to fair and impartial trial in cases of corruption based on the case law of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo.

The workshop attendees were given the opportunity to become more closely acquainted with the international case law and instruments for the prevention of and fight against corruption, and particularly with the legal framework and judicial mechanisms for the fight against corruption in Austria.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Hartwig, lecturer of the International Public Law and Constitutional Law at the Heidelberg University, Germany, and Dr. Johannes Windisch, Public Prosecutor at the Austrian Public Prosecutor’s Office, participated in this topic through their presentations on the fight against economic crime and corruption in Vienna and were also the moderators of this workshop.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
