The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Gresa Caka – Nimani, participated in the 14th Conference of Presidents of Supreme Courts of Central and Eastern Europe, organized by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kosovo at Hotel Emerald in Prishtina, on Monday, 24 June 2024.
In her introductory word, President Caka – Nimani underlined the need for mutual cooperation to address challenges within judicial systems and to maintain the independence of the judiciary, especially in new democracies.
She, among other things, said that “it is absolutely vital that judicial dialogue and cooperation highlight the need to preserve and advance the independence of the judicial power – which appears and reappears as a challenge not only in the new democracies of this part of the globe but also in the more advanced democracies”.
The Conference of Presidents of Supreme Courts of Central and Eastern Europe, aimed at promoting the rule of law and exchanging mutual experiences, gathers annually the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of: the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Slovenia, the Republic of Montenegro, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, and the Republic of Romania.
