Judge Nexhmi Rexhepi elected new president of the Constitutional Court

In the administrative session held on 10 December 2024, the judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, pursuant to paragraph 5 of Article 114 [Composition and Mandate of the Constitutional Court] of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, elected Judge, Mr. Nexhmi Rexhepi, as the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.

The mandate of the incoming President of the Court will begin on 31 December 2024, after the current President, Ms. Gresa Caka-Nimani, has completed her nine (9) year mandate provided for judges of the Constitutional Court, as per the provisions of paragraph 2 of Article 114 [Composition and Mandate of the Constitutional Court] of the Constitution.

Judge, Mr. Safet Hoxha, has been elected as the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
