Former Deputy President and former Constitutional Court Judge Ivan Čukalović passes away

On Thursday, 23 December 2021, former Deputy President and former Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Ivan Čukalović, passed away.

In the capacity of a jurist and former judge of the first composition of judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Čukalović has given a valuable and important contribution to advancing the constitutional judiciary of the Republic of Kosovo and strengthening the rule of law in the country.

On behalf of the judges and all officials of the Constitutional Court, President Gresa Caka – Nimani expressed her sincere condolences to all family members, friends and former close associates of Mr. Čukalović.

The funeral of the deceased will take place on Saturday, 25 December 2021, at 14:00 hrs, in his native village Sredska, in the municipality of Prizren.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
