At the invitation of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Arta Rama-Hajrizi, and Judge, Mrs. Gresa Caka-Nimani, travelled to Budva on Monday, 19 December 2016.

President Rama-Hajrizi and Judge Caka-Nimani were invited to participate the International Conference on the topic: “The role of the Constitutional Court in developing the Rule of Law: Protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms”, which will take place in Budva on 20 and 21 December 2016.

The conference will be attended by presidents and judges of the constitutional courts of the region, in front of whom President Arta Rama-Hajrizi shall give a presentation regarding the role of the constitutional courts in the rule of law.

The Conference is organized by the Constitutional Court of Montenegro and the Council of Europe Office in this country, on the occasion of the statehood millennium and the tenth anniversary of the independence of Montenegro.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
