On July 16, 2009 President Fatmir Sejdiu swore in Judge Snezhana Botusharova-Doicheva from the Republic of Bulgaria to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.  Judge Bothusharova-Doicheva joins her two colleagues, Judge Robert Carolan, United States of America, and Judge Almiro Simoes Rodrigues, the Portuguese  Republic, as the international appointees to the nine-member Court.  The swearing in ceremony was held at the Office of the President of Kosovo and included Judge Enver Hasani, President of the Constitutional Court, Peter Feith, Chief of the International Civilian Office, Kosovo government leaders, and representatives of the diplomatic core.  
Judge Bothusharova-Doicheva is currently an International Judge at the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 
She previously served as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

 

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
