The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Sc. Arta Rama-Hajrizi, had a meeting on Tuesday, 30 June 2015, with the US Congressman Eliot Engel, who is staying on a several day visit to Kosovo.

President Rama-Hajrizi thanked Congressman Engel for the visit and expressed gratitude for the commitment and the continuous support that the United States and he personally gave to Kosovo in the state-building efforts.

She informed the US Congressman on the work of the Constitutional Court so far, emphasizing its important role in respect of the constitutionality and the development of constitutional judiciary in the country.

Congressman Engel congratulated President Rama-Hajrizi on her election as head of the Constitutional Court and highly valued the cooperation of both countries in the field of justice. He pointed out the necessity for an independent judiciary as an essential requirement in function of strengthening of the democracy.

In this regard both parties agreed that it is important that further consolidation of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo takes place as soon as possible with the election of two new judges.

The meeting was attended also by the judge of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, Mr. Sc. Bekim Sejdiu.
