The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo issues today its Judgment in the cases: KO 45/12 and KO 46/12, concerning a challenge brought by 12 deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo against the Law on the Village of Hoçë e Madhe/Velika Hoča and the Law on the Historic Centre of Prizren. These Laws were passed by the Assembly of Kosovo on 20 April 2012.

The Referrals were joined and dealt with together due to the subject matter and persons involved.

Based on the constitutional provisions the Constitutional Court has decided that both Laws are compatible with the Constitution.

The Judgment will be served on the parties and it will be available on the website of the Court and will be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Kosovo.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
