Officials from Bundestag visited the Court

Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Remzije Istrefi – Peci, hosted a delegation of officials from the German Bundestag, comprised of advisers and officials supporting the deputies of the German Federal Parliament.

Composition of the Court and the work done so far, the most important decisions and reference to the European Court of Human Rights case law during the case adjudication process, as well as the constitutional provisions guaranteeing protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms in Kosovo, were just some of the topics on which Judge Istrefi – Peci placed her focus during the conversation with the German delegation.

In the continuation of the meeting, she expressed her gratitude for the help provided over the years by the German Government in raising the professional and infrastructural capacities of the Constitutional Court, highlighting the establishment of the Court Library with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation “GIZ” as well as the trainings organized with the regular courts by the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation “IRZ”.

For their part, German officials expressed their interest in being informed into more detail about the Court’s most important decisions since its establishment, the ethnic structure of the applicants, the election process of the constitutional judges and the Court’s membership in international professional organizations and forums.

The visit to Kosovo of the delegation of Bundestag officials was organized by the Southeast Europe Association, an organization financed by the German Federal Foreign Office, in cooperation with the German foundations: “Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung”, “Friedich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit”, “Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung”, “Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung” and “Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung”.
