Judge Jeton Bytyqi at the regional conference on Human Rights and the Environment in Southeast Europe

Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Jeton Bytyqi, stayed on October 17 and 18, 2024, in a two-day visit to Budva in Montenegro, at the invitation to participate in the Regional Conference on Human Rights and the Environment, organized by the Council of Europe within the project on Human Rights and Sustainable Environment in Southeast Europe.

The conference enabled the exchange of expert discussions between members of the judiciary, prosecutions, civil society and legal experts from the countries of Southeast Europe regarding the legislation and case law of different European countries in relation to human rights and the environment.

Among other things, the topic of discussion at the conference was to raise awareness of the essential connection between human rights and environmental protection issues, as well as identifying challenges and best practices in this area.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
