In the session held on 31 March 2014, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo deliberated and voted on Case KO44/14, “Assessment of Government’s Proposal of Amendments to the Constitution, submitted by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo on 11 March 2014” – that are related to the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) to Kosovo Armed Forces (KAF).
 
The Constitutional Court, as the final authority for the interpretation of the Constitution, unanimously decided that:

I. The Referral is admissible;

II. The proposed amendments to the Constitution do not diminish the rights and freedoms guaranteed by Chapter II of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.

The full text of the Judgment will be notified to the parties and published in the Official Gazette in due course.

The Constitutional Court of Kosovo was established in January 2009.

With its authority to review legislation and individual complaints of rights violations, the Court is the ultimate check on legislative and executive power in Kosovo and the final arbiter of the meaning of constitutional provisions enshrining human rights and freedoms.
